Check the author instructions
Identify the journal, article type and template version. Review title, affiliations, abstract, keywords and reference requirements. Some journals require a separate anonymized manuscript, so check before including author names. Permissions, research data and editorial declarations need separate attention beyond document layout.
Review columns, figures and tables
A submission file may differ from a two-column published layout. When selecting a journal template, inspect the whole saved article, including the introduction, tables and figures. A cover preview cannot establish that the remaining pages are correct. Check image labels and small text at their actual final display size.
Verify the submission version
Match citations to the reference list and the journal’s required style. Changing numeric labels or author names alone is not a complete reference review. Check the DOI and source links you supplied. A team file review can confirm scope and requirements, but formatting does not guarantee publication or peer-review acceptance.
Pre-submission checklist
- Identify the journal, article type and template.
- Apply anonymity requirements where requested.
- Check abstract and keyword constraints.
- Keep figure labels readable and consistent.
- Inspect the exact file sent to the publisher.
Common questions
Does IEEE always mean two columns?
Use the receiving venue’s template and submission instructions. Manuscripts and final published papers can have different layouts.
Can my findings remain unchanged?
Yes. Formatting concerns presentation and structure. Scientific content changes require the researcher’s decision.
