Identify the dissertation format
A traditional dissertation and an article-based dissertation may have different structural, publication and declaration requirements. Do not apply a traditional-thesis guide to a publication-based submission without checking. Record the faculty, language and degree, along with any permissions required for reproducing published material.
Check consistency across chapters
Review heading levels, chapter labels, table and figure numbering, and the references to them in your text. Check appendices, landscape pages and sections with different numbering. Combining separate chapter files can introduce inconsistent styles, so review the merged result rather than assuming that individual files still look the same.
Inspect the submission version
Update contents after the last edit. Inspect chapter openings, long tables, references and appendices in the final PDF. Compare the title and researcher and supervisor names across covers and abstracts. For team service, supply the review notes and requested deadline; the final scope and delivery date require file review.
Pre-submission checklist
- Confirm the dissertation type is covered.
- Use consistent chapter and appendix numbering.
- Verify figure and table cross-references.
- Check isolated headings and overflowing content.
- Submit the version you actually reviewed.
Common questions
Can I reuse a master’s template?
Only where the receiving institution explicitly applies those requirements to both degrees. A shared university name does not establish a match.
Does formatting guarantee acceptance?
No. Academic assessment and submission approval remain with the institution and supervisors.
